Metabolic checkpoints

Know your numbers early — blood pressure, lipids, glucose, and waist circumference.

Preventive care · Annual (more often if abnormal) · strong evidence

why it matters

Cardiometabolic disease remains the leading cause of premature death. Silent progression is common; screening enables intervention years before symptoms.

the protocol

  1. 1. Baseline labs (age 18+) Fasting glucose or HbA1c, lipid panel, CMP. Discuss family history with your clinician.
  2. 2. Blood pressure at home If elevated in clinic, monitor AM and PM for a week with a validated cuff. Share logs with your doctor.
  3. 3. Waist circumference Measure at navel level. Elevated waist-to-height ratio flags visceral fat risk even at normal BMI.
  4. 4. Follow evidence-based screening schedules Colon, breast, cervical, and other cancer screenings per USPSTF or your country’s guidelines. Update as guidelines evolve.
